I think I was about 8, maybe 9 when I saw the 1953 War of the world’s movie (which was a long time ago now) and it was and remains an all-time fave of mine. Its not the most faithful adaptation that’s for sure. Hell, the tripods are not even tripods … or are they ?
The dialogue does cover this when the War machines as they call them in the movie first emerge.
They are walking on electromagnetic legs and there are some effects to give the illusion of three beams for legs in the early scenes and fires starting g where they touch the ground.
Other than the first contact at the landing site and the above mentioned emergence from the that site later , the other great section is based around a remote snake like eye and some actual contact with a Martian which they keep very brief which is just as well I guess as we are all spoilt nowadays for life like aliens, beasties and stuff thanks to CGI.
Anyway, I have go that out of my system so it could be some alternative WW2 stuff next maybe but I have been having moments of boredom with all that.
