Repulser field generation which, on this model, has additional emitters for augmenting the armour. I chose a Jagdpanther figuring that these vehicles would be quite manoeuvrable and so perhaps negating the need for a turret - the Jagdpanther is also one mean looking bitch which was the decider if I'm honest.
The field emitters came about after thinking about well-known sci-fi shield generators (Star trek and stuff like that) and how the tech had to have started somewhere in a comparatively lower tech form.
Power is still the issue. Its OK on a starship because you have enormous energy production but here in this alternative 1940’s most tech is just as it really was so huge diesel engine(s) generators and accumulators. The latter holds sufficient power to hold the vehicle for a short period after engine stop and also for the side emitters (shields). The shields would stop most contemporary shells or at least significantly reduce their damage potential. However, each repelled shot would deplete the energy storage and charge time would be a factor in this tank surviving attack.
So what happens when the crew park up and decide to go a for a beer and curry - leave the engine running ?
Naw, built in hydraulic jacks each of which has a compressed air cylinder backup system in case the hydraulics are screwed. You can't see them in this image but I did model them in ..... honest!
